Who we are

SOS Children’s Villages Ethiopia is an International Non-governmental organization and a member of SOS Children’s Villages International Federation. The organization started its humanitarian work with the opening of its first Village in Mekelle, Northern part of Ethiopia in 1974. The organization has been providing life-saving provisions such as food, water and health services for a very significant number of children devastated by severe drought and the subsequent famine.

Today, we have grown significantly to meet the persistent challenges that confront Ethiopian children who have lost parental care and are at risk of losing their parental care. Working in close collaboration with international donors, local government and community based organizations across seven program locations; SOS Children’s Villages Ethiopia aspires that every child grows up with love, respect and security.

Your role....

     As a Family Strengthening Manager, you will be in charge of the following:

  • Actively participating in policy and guideline development, translation, revision, familiarization and follow-up of proper implementation in specific areas of work where he/she is accountable.
  • Developing detailed program concepts for new types of interventions in the country
  • Supporting different stakeholders at location level in applying for different sources of funds on family strengthening and community development programs.
  • Leading specific programme development projects
  • Preparing reports on developments in the specific programme area
  • Supporting the development and implementation of a national Association Quality Management System.
  • Monitoring and evaluating the quality and progress of programme/project interventions
  • Participating in the recruitment and on boarding of the Location Family and Community Development Program Mangers and programme staff in Program location, and provides input into annual performance
  • Partner with National HROD unit to assess capacity gaps and   facilitate capacity building trainings to staffs from different locations working in the area of Family and Community Development
  • Documenting and distributing lessons learned and good practices to support organisational learning at national, regional and international level.
  • Participating on behalf of the MA in the regional network and contributes to regional Programme projects
  • Reviewing donor program strategies on a continuous basis and FCD program content and strategies
  • Identifying potential partner organizations for SOS CVE and building strong links and cooperation with national government and local authorities, as well as other stakeholders to enhance programme development.
  • Joining relevant networks, forums, platforms, campaigns, working groups and advocating on behalf of the organisation for the promotion and protection of children’s rights, and on issues related to children at risk of losing the care of their families or children without parental care.
  • Preparing and following up on program budget
  • Supporting program locations in periodic budget revision.

The must haves:

  • BA degree in social, pedagogical or psychological sciences, development studies, community development, or public administration.
  • Minimum 6 years working experience in implementing of social programme/s out of which 3 years as Advisor or senior level positions
  • Experiences  working with vulnerable children, families and community
  • Good command of English, written and spoken
  • Practical experience in project management, planning, monitoring and evaluation
  • Good knowledge and understanding of children’s rights and rights-based approaches in the development of programmes
  • Awareness and understanding of social development issues including gender, education, health, HIV/AIDS.
  • Understanding of human resource development
  • Experience in budget development and knowledge in financial management
  • High level of communication skills
  • Ability to work under high pressure
  • Positive and professional approach: highly organized, results oriented, using initiative and keeping commitments
  • Computer literacy (MS Office and MS project)
  • Experience in community mobilization
  • Knowledge of national policy developments in the area of child welfare.
  • Knowledge of project cycle management
  • Willingness to travel frequently
